Read about the differences between Personal and Home and choose the right plan for you
Trying to work out which plan suits you best? In this post we lay out the differences between Personal and Home. We start from a few different scenarios – maybe one of them matches your needs and wishes?
Already a customer? You can change your plan at any time in My Onlime.
Don’t have an account yet? Get started with 100 GB for 9 kr/mo for 3 months, then 29 kr/mo and try every feature in the service.
The basic differences
First, let’s set out the basic differences between the two plans: the number of users and the amount of storage in the cloud:
-
Personal has 1 user
-
Home has up to 5 users
-
Personal has unlimited storage in the cloud
-
Home lets you pick storage to suit your needs: 100 GB, 1 TB, 5 TB or 10 TB
Users means separate logins to the service – that is, a separate email and password per user.
On the Home plan you choose the cloud storage yourselves — from 100 GB up to 10 TB — because several people generally use more storage than one.
Example 1: I only need to store files in the cloud for myself
If that’s a yes, it’s simple – choose the Personal plan. Here you get one login (email and password) that you can use to sign in to Onlime from all your devices.
Storage in the cloud is unlimited on the Personal plan, and you get free support from us, of course.
Note that you need a business plan if you’re going to use the service in a company.
Example 2: Everyone in the family needs to store files in the cloud – separately. Privacy, please!
The answer here is simple too – choose the Home plan, where you can be up to 5 separate users and share your chosen cloud storage (up to 10 TB).
The Home plan lets you decide how much storage each user account is allowed to use. And everyone in the family is welcome to use our Danish support.
Files in the cloud are kept apart and private, since each person has their own separate login. You can choose to share files between you however you like. It’s also worth setting up a shared photo album where you can easily add photos and videos to share, straight from your smartphones.
Example 3: I want to store both private and shared files – and only share some files with the family
A Personal plan is perfectly fine here for storing both private and shared files.
Families who choose a Personal plan often have shared files such as family photos stored on a computer or an external hard drive. From a computer you can back up both shared files and your own. Even with just one login, you can choose which folders and files you want to share.
So you can choose a Personal plan if it’s enough to share files with the family via a share link, and if the other family members don’t need to secure their own files in the service.
Example 4: Everyone in the family can access files in the cloud – one shared login is enough
This is no problem at all – just choose one Personal plan and share that single login with the others in the family.
You can sign in to Onlime with this one login and install the apps on all your devices. You can tell your files apart in several ways – either create folders in the cloud for each person, or use automatic backup, which automatically saves files to the cloud under the name of the computer.
Keep in mind that everyone can see all the files on the account. If you want separate access, choose the Home plan. As the account owner you can always change plan from My Onlime.
Every plan gives you access to our service. Through the apps and browser access you can store, back up, sync and share files via the cloud from all your computers, smartphones, tablets and so on.
You’re free to install the apps and use the service from all your computers, smartphones, tablets and browsers – there’s no limit on how many.
The features in the apps vary a little depending on how we use our devices. For example, the mobile app has a simpler layout focused on backing up photos and videos through the intuitive photo timeline.
The app for Windows and Mac is more advanced, because we often have a greater need to tailor the service to our individual needs – for example, which folders to back up and when it should happen.
If you need to transfer large or many files from your computer, the app for Windows/Mac is the one to use.
When you sign in at Onlime.dk you can transfer smaller amounts of files. The website always gives you access to your files from all your devices – and you can easily move, copy and share files and folders however you like.
You can share files and folders with other people – either via a share link or a personal invitation.
How to restore your files
Whichever plan you choose, your files are protected if something goes wrong:
- Restore from the cloud: If you lose a file locally – or your computer breaks – you can download your files again from the cloud on any device, for as long as the subscription is active.
- Deleted files are kept for 30 days: If you delete a file by mistake, it stays in the trash for 30 days, where you can easily restore it.
- Earlier versions: Onlime keeps the 5 most recent versions of your files, so you can roll back to an earlier copy – for example if a file is overwritten or hit by ransomware.
